What is Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome?
Tyler was born with Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS), giving him his signature purple arm.
KTS is a rare, congenital, vascular disorder. Some of the characteristics of KTS include a port wine stain coloring the area, vein and/or lymphatic malformation, and growth abnormalities in the affected region. Tyler’s KTS affects his right hand, arm, and chest.
Tyler's patience, positivity, and overall kindness inspired me to share his story. Tyler sees the good in everyone, and likewise, people see the good in him. He shares that his purple arm has helped shape him, giving him a humble nature, positive attitude, and grateful mindset. Truly, to know Tyler is to love Tyler!
Although there have been obstacles along the way, Tyler has taken his diagnosis in stride. He sees the potential in what he CAN do. Everything the character participates in throughout the book, Tyler did as well. Tyler’s arm is only a very small part of who he is and what he does. He has not let it define him.
